Is my file kept?

Only briefly. It goes straight from your browser to private storage, is processed there, and both the upload and the result are deleted automatically after 1 hour. If you are signed in they are kept for 24 hours instead, and you will find them under Recent files, where you can delete them at any time. Nobody else can open them.

Why does my photo become such a big SVG?

An SVG describes shapes, not pixels. A logo is a handful of shapes; a photograph is thousands of tiny ones. If you need an SVG of a photo, choose “Photo or gradients”, and lower the detail to shrink it.

Question 3

Why did my SVG's text come out in a different font?

Accepted Answer

The drawing uses a small set of built-in fonts: Arial, Helvetica, Times and Courier are matched to look alike, and any other font is replaced by a plain sans-serif. For exact lettering, convert the text to outlines in your design tool before uploading.

Question 4

Why was an image inside my SVG missing?

Accepted Answer

For your safety, links from an SVG to other files or web addresses are ignored. Pictures embedded in the SVG itself (as data) are drawn.

Can I get a transparent background?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Tracing leaves the background transparent unless you choose to keep it, and a PNG drawn from an SVG is transparent unless you pick a background colour. A JPEG can't be transparent, so it is white unless you choose a colour.

What if I run the same file twice?

Accepted Answer

If it's the same file with the same options, you get the earlier result back instantly, without uploading or processing again.

Can it trace a hand-drawn sketch or a scanned page?

Accepted Answer

Sometimes. Clean, high-contrast drawings trace well with the flat kind and one colour. Photographs of paper, shadows and gradients won't come out cleanly.
